HMI K-12 Children's Tours/Community Stories Summer 2012

Since 1981, Historic Milwaukee has served Milwaukee-area school children with history lessons through their “K-12 Student Tours”. It involve a 1.5 hour walking tour of downtown Milwaukee for students in grades 3 through 12. HMI has trained guides that lead the school groups throughout our city.

So I went on a tour with over 60 3 rd graders from Muskego Elementary. We were joined with guides, Jim Alles, Rose Kryzkowski, Marcie Roberts, Mari Pavleje, and Gary Kulas. The start of the tour was in front of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Students had the chance to learn about the people who settled along the banks of the Milwaukee River and its history. Each tour includes historic buildings, bridges, architecture, and a real life history lesson about Milwaukee.
