Free Home Remodeling For Low-Income Seniors

Rebuilding Together makes free repairs to the home of Marti Jackson, a Milwaukee senior with limited mobility on a fixed income.  Click the player to hear how Rebuilding Together is helping her stay in her home.

As we get older, everyday tasks can become a little harder.  Things like climbing the stairs to do laundry, or getting in and out of the shower can become extremely difficult for seniors with limited mobility.

Even seniors who don't have mobility problems can get behind on home repairs -- things like a leaky sink or a failing hot water heater.  Oftentimes they are going without those basic home needs simply because they can't afford to make the repairs on a fixed income.

That's where Rebuilding Together of Greater Milwaukee comes in.  It's a non-profit that makes those repairs for low-income seniors.  And it does it all for free.

The assistance is available to any low-income senior over the age of 60, or anyone who is living with a disability and has a limited income.  Applicants must own their own homes, and they must be current on their property taxes or tax payment plan.

Rebuilding Together tackles any home project, except for roofs and foundations.  To find out if you or someone you know qualifies, visit its official website or call (414) 319-9828.
