Lights, decorations, music and holiday cheer: 150+ homes in the Candy Cane Lane neighborhood helping creating holiday memories and family traditions for over 27 years.
Candy Cane Lane started back in 1984, when a group of neighbors got together to
collect money for the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer), inspired by a boy in the neighborhood that was diagnosed with cancer. So much money was raised and they had so much fun, they decided the next year was going to be even bigger and brighter.
Candy Cane Lane in West Allis, stretches from Montana Avenue on the north to Oklahoma on the south, and runs from 92nd to 96th streets. Each year, just before Thanksgiving, a group of volunteers start decorating the tree-lined streets to look like candy canes.
Hundreds of houses are decorated in time for people to start visiting on the Friday after Thanksgiving. For 30+ days, people come from near and far to enjoy the festively decorated houses. Each night a different group of volunteers are manning the donation stations. From local Rotary Clubs to the Mayor of West Allis to Santa himself...the community comes together, donating their time to collect donations for the MACC fund and Hunger Task Force.
