"I think I'll definitely be the first person to walk over a big bunch of money cause I'm always looking up." -Justin Hendrickson-Illuminating Engineering Society
The Illuminating Engineering Society-Milwaukee Chapter has been around since the
1940's. "We seek to improve the lighted environment by bringing together people with lighting knowledge that are in the industry, then translating that into actions that benefit the public." says Holly Blomquist, Sections Secretary for IES-North American Chapter.
IES members are lighting designers, architects, engineers, lighting specifiers, interior designers and manufacturers. "Continuing education is a big part of IES. " says Blomquist. "We have monthly events keeping up up to date on specific technologies like LED, it's an ever changing technology that's going so fast".
IES also holds free monthly meetings, and encourage students from various disciplines to learn about lighting outside of what they learn in school.
Historic Milwaukee, Inc. has invited IES to give a walking tour highlighting the art and science of lighting at favorite downtown spaces during the Open Doors Milwaukee events. The tours point out the use of lighting in downtown Milwaukee, from the Harp Lights in Pere Marquette Park to the LED lights at the
Milwaukee PAC to the 6th Street Viaduct Bridge.
