Homelessness doesn't just end with the calendar year. Every day in Milwaukee, men, women, and children are spending the night on the streets. For them, room temperature can be below freezing. And, tragically, some of them won't survive.
But many organizations around the city are stepping in, and this winter, 88nine is bringing you their stories.
The ministries at St. Benedict the Moor serve people all over Milwaukee and reach people from all different backgrounds. In addition to a community meal program and prison outreach ministry, St. Ben's also serves the homeless at its free clinic.
The clinic, which is operated by Columbia St. Mary's, provides preventative and routine healthcare for homeless people, regardless of their ability to pay. Nurse practitioners, registered nurses and doctors staff the clinic, and social workers are on hand to connect people with additional services.
And you can help, too.
Besides healthcare, St. Ben's also provides people who are homeless with clothing, and during the winter, cold weather gear is especially appreciated. St. Ben's accepts donation at its office on State street, between North 9th and 10th streets, during normal business hours.
