Wauwatosa's Bike and Pedestrian Plan

The City of Wauwatosa is researching a master plan to make travel safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

"What we have is a lot of nice segments of riding that aren't fully connected to one another," said alderman Jeff Roznowki who is leading the project.

"I think there will be more costly options that will involve funding issues," he added.

The plan includes expanding bike lanes on heavily traveled roads like Center Street, Burleigh Street, and North Avenue.  It may also add asphalt bike paths around the Menomonee River Parkway and build a pedestrian bridge over Mayfair Road.

The plan is far from finalized.  Right now, the city is asking for input from residents, and it has launched  Wiki Maps site for them to mark areas of concern.

The City of Wauwatosa is also holding a series of public meetings to discuss the project.  The fist one is May 1 at 6:30 p.m. at 1601 Underwood Avenue.
