Watch A Short Documentary on LCD Soundsytem's Record Label, DFA

Recently, the Red Bull Music Academy commenced  in NYC. What is the Red Bull Music Academy?

The Red Bull Music Academy is a world-travelling series of music workshops and festivals: a platform for those who make a difference in today's musical landscape.

To celebrate the academy and the music of NYC, Red Bull Music Academy put together a short film on the iconic indie label DFA Records, which was founded by Tim Goldsworthy, musician James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), and manager Jonathan Galkin in 2001. The label brought a punk ethos and style to dance music.

With unprecedented access to the label’s NYC headquarters, the bands and James Murphy himself, “Too Old To Be New, Too New To Be Classic” tells the story of how the imprint went from fledgling indie imprint to respected institution.

The short film is narated by Marc Maron and features appearances and music from James Murphy,  LCD Soundsytem, The Rapture, Sinkane, Yacht and more.
