We have been digging deep in the crates this week, as we explore the samples of Mos Def's album BLACK ON BOTH SIDES. Today we saved the best for last... At least in my opinion. Mos Def's 1999 solo album had some big hits for him, but the dance floor always went craziest when I would play the song "Ms Fat Booty".
Such a great song, and a cool video too. This track was produced by Ayatollah for Mos Def, and he really flipped the original sample is a clever way. The origianl source is Aretha Franklin's song "One Step Ahead." If you listen closely you can hear the samples at 0:36, 0:53 and 1:21. Amazing flip!
