Grant Green's Samba Sample

This week's theme on the Seven O'Clock Sample focuses on the sounds of Samba.  We are going to look at how this genre has found it's way into sample based music.  Today, we listened to the jazzy side of Samba.  In 1967, Grant Green recorded a record with John Patton and Ben Dixon called IRON CITY.  The second cut on this record was "Samba de Orpheus" by the famous Brazilian guitarist Luiz Bonfá.

One of my favorite Jazz based Hip Hop groups of all time, the Digable Planets sampled this song on the first track of their 1993 debut album Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space).
