Alverno students gather clothes for homeless

Student volunteers from Alverno College collected donations for two area homeless shelters last week, filling two school busses with clothes and toiletries.

All the supplies will go to residents at  Guest House and  Joy House.

The students are part of an organization called R.A.I.S.E., short for Reduce Struggle, Create Awareness, Inspire Others, Service the Community, Empower People to Get Involved.  The organization focuses on volunteer work for those less fortunate.

Students got the idea for the Stuff the Bus drive after one of their members discovered the body of a deceased homeless man last year during an organized clean up at the Lakefront.

While the formal drive has passed, students are still encouraging people to donate clothing and toiletries to the two shelters.
