The final curtain closed on the Milwaukee Film Festival last Thursday. While festival featured films from around the world, organizers paid homage to the homeland with a category dedicated entirely to local talent.
Among the "Cream City Cinema" collection was the October 3 screening of The Milwaukee Show. It showcased a selection of shorts by Milwaukee filmmakers. With roughly 1,000 attendees, the sold out show was a pinnacle of the festival.
“What we’re looking to do is both represent the breadth of filmmaking styles in the community, but also simply select the best work,” said Jonathan Jackson, the Artistic and Executive Director of the festival.
The shorts crossed genre lines, spanning from sci-fi and stop-motion to music videos with a few heart-warming documentaries in between.
“It’s not based on any theme. Part of what i think keeps the show so interesting is that the content is so diverse,” Jackson said.
Milwaukee Film offers year-round services such as workshops to support local filmmakers. Additionally, the winner of the Cream City Cinema category is awarded a year-long residency, equipment and $5000.
