Followers of the Transition Movement were in town last week, learning more about organizations focused on urban agriculture, sustainability, and local resiliency.
They were here for an organized week of events dubbed "Brew City Abundance Week."
The Transition Movement focuses on reducing one's carbon impact by using less fossil fuels and relying on locally produced food and goods instead of products shipped in from overseas. Author and Founder Rob Hopkins was in town for a series of appearances.
Visitors went on a bus tour of like-missioned organizations and attended "re-skilling" workshops where they learned how to reduce their CO2 emissions at home. The week ended in party at Lakefront Brewery where Hopkins and Mayor Tom Barrett spoke.
Transition Milwaukee, the local chapter of the movement, led visitors on a tour of Habitat for Humanity, Kompost Kids, Milwaukee Riverkeeper, Riverwest Co-Op, the Milwaukee Area Time Exchange, Growing Power, Alice's Garden, and Walnut Way.
