Grey Genius.
This talented young rapper/singer/songwriter/poet hails from Milwaukee’s north side. After graduating from Riverside University High School in 2010, she currently is a student at Marquette University. She has always had a passion for music. She grew up around music her entire life, so it instilled in her and is something that she has grown to love. She’s been writing her own raps since the age of 11 and singing since 8. She hit her specific genre of music around 15 years old. Her freshman year of college is when she decided to take her career seriously.
If you ask her about her name, she’ll tell you that her first name represents how her music style isn’t black and white. She exposes herself to all types of music (a la 88Nine) and feels that she has been blessed with a limitless style, which makes her feel like a genius.
The song that put her on the map, so to say, is “ Walking & Thinking.” While it wasn’t her first track, it is the one that showed her peers that she had true talent and the drive to use it. In that song, she raps, but let’s not forget that her skills aren’t limited to rapping. In her latest single, “ Love,” she sings from deep in her heart about a strong connection she has experienced with someone.
Grey Genius is indeed a talented young artist representing Milwaukee to the fullest, and she is not to be slept on.
