A coalition of local non-profits is organizing a day of events on May 17 to address racial segregation in Milwaukee.
Schools and Communities United will host its first ever "Justice For All" parade, stepping off at 14th and Vliet and continuing to the Milwaukee High School of the Arts. After the parade, attendees will be invited inside the school to view students' art, share a meal, and continue the discussion about local race relations.
The parade begins at 10 a.m.
May 17, 2014 marks the 60th anniversary of a historic U.S. Supreme Court decision - Brown v. Board of Education - that was the legal springboard to end racial segregation in public schools.
But as Milwaukee continues to be one of nation's most segregated cities, organizers say they hope the day of events will spark a larger conversation about the city's racial challenges.
