Bike, walk or skate: a unique view of Milwaukee

Did you know there's a pedestrian/bike trail that stretches from Milwaukee's lakefront west to the border of Waukesha County? The Hank Aaron State Trail winds it's way over 14 miles through Milwaukee neighborhoods, passing landmarks like Discovery World, Miller Park and The Old Soldiers Home.

When you travel the trail, you will see art installments and covered bridges. You can stop to look at the Milwaukee river, learn about Milwaukee's history at the Old Soldier's Home, check out a swamp forest or bird watch at the Menomonee Valley.

The development of the Hank Aaron State Trail has contributed to the restoration and protection of the Menomonee River Valley. "Thanks to the non-profit Friends of The Hank Aaron State Trail, improvements have been made that the DNR was unable to provide," says Melissa Cook, the Hank Aaron State Trail Manager for the Department of Natural Resources. "We always think were finished with the trail and another piece gets added. It keeps getting better, which is a win-win for the city."

Check out the story above for more information and take some time this summer to explore the trail for yourself.
