Bands coming together on the courts

In order to have a thriving Milwaukee music scene, we all need to support our local bands. Buying a record or going out to see a live show is the easiest way to prove to these talented musicians we are paying attention.

But how do you get musicians, producers and mc's together to support each other? One idea is Bandsketball.

"I lived in Portland and my friends has a basketball hoop attached to their van," says Johanna Rose (Calamity Janes, Donovan The Shark). "They would go to their gigs and end up playing basketball against the other bands. They turned it into a tournament".  That's the idea that sparked last months "Bandsketball" tournament in Riverwest. "It was really clear to me we have a lot of music going on in the city," says Alex Heaton (Lousy Trouts, Ugly Brothers, Caley Conway and the Lucy Cukes). "It's really nice to get people to hang out together outside other than just at a bar at night."

All these games have lead to discussions of future musical collaborations. Interested in joining future pick-up games? Follow Bandskett ball on their Facebook page
