The non-profit Girls Rock Milwaukee just celebrated its second year with a showcase at Turner Hall Ballroom. Girls Rock Milwaukee is a camp for girls aged 8-16 with a focus on music education and performance. During the camp, the girls learn about songwriting, playing insturments, and working together in newly formed bands. At the conclusion of the camp, the girls perform in their bands on Turner Hall Ballroom's stage. Check out 8 8Nine's story about Girls Rock Milwaukee from last year's camp.
Just announced a few days ago, Girls Rock Milwaukee will get a new big sister, Ladies Rock Milwaukee. Ladies Rock Milwaukee will have same focus as Girls Rock Milwaukee but for women aged 21 and older. The camp will launch in 2015. This is the mission of Ladies Rock Milwaukee:
Our mission is to empower women of all backgrounds and abilities through music education and performance. We are committed to fostering independent thinking, building self-esteem, and bridging cultural and social divides in a supportive community of peers and mentors. We are dedicated to providing a safe space for women to explore music through creative collaboration, self-expression, and technical development. Let's have fun, let loose, and rock!
