Nonprofit helping minorities launch businesses

A local organization is helping entrepreneurs of color to start businesses in Milwaukee.

Founded in 2012, Dream MKE offers a training program, and, in some cases, offers loans to help people turn an idea into a company.

Executive Director Derrick Johnson says it's geared toward communities he calls "under served."

"It's not like there is a deficit of people, it's more a deficit of opportunity," Johnson said.  "Individuals who are able to get jobs, that's fine, but we also have to have but we also have to have this alternative entrepreneurship."

Students work through an online training module, and they are also able to receive consulting from professionals who have already started a business.
