Milwaukee is thriving with networking groups aimed at drawing and keeping young professionals in our city. Each group has their own niche and goals. Some help young folks of diverse backgrounds make connections, while others focused on getting millennials out to visit places in the city they may not have known about before. There are groups for women and groups that help their young people connect with non-profit orgs to volunteer and fundraise. The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) in Milwaukee wants to build a stronger city by connecting our young leaders to Milwaukee social sector, through job opportunities and volunteer work.
YNPN started in San Francisco in 1997 and now have dozens of chapters around the country. I visited YNPN Milwaukee during their YNPN Job Fair at Independance First to learn more about their mission in our city. They have a fellowship program to help develop a strong group of leaders that could move into the non-profit sector of our city, doing a variety of jobs from management to support roles to marketing and everything inbetween.
Members of the YNPN are a mix of employees of nonprofit and for profit companies. Some have been working in this sector for years, while others are hoping to break into the field or are recent college graduates. They all have one thing in common: their commitment to the future of nonprofits in and around Milwaukee.
