Local music fest to raise money for public schools

A first of its kind music and arts festival is happening in Milwaukee this weekend, aimed at raising money for arts programs in Milwaukee schools.

Arte Para Todos, Spanish for "art for all," features a lineup of more than 70 Milwaukee bands performing at 15 venues across three neighborhoods.

And here's what makes it really different -- 100% of the ticket sales will be donated to three partner schools hit hard by budget cuts, according to festival co-founder Josh Evert.

Bay View High School, Tamarack Waldorf High School, and La Escuela Fratney will each receive one third of the total proceeds raised over the weekend.

The festival kicks off this Friday in Bay View.  Artists will take the stage at Club Garibaldi, Cactus Club, Tonic Tavern, Franks Power Plant, Highbury Pub, and Boone and Crockett.

On Saturday, the festival moves to Riverwest.  You can catch live performances at eight venues including Mad Planet, Bremen Cafe, Club Timbuktu, Riverwest Public House, Cocoon Room, Quarter's, Linneman's, and Company Brewing.

Arte wraps up on the East Side Sunday with a music shorts film fest at Hotel Foster, with live music at Yield, Jazz Estate, and  G-Daddy's BBC.

The lineup is "staggered," too, meaning you won't have to choose between seeing shows at conflicting times.

Besides all the live music, you will also be able to see visual art at many of the venues.  Artists will create and collaborate in person, allowing you to take in a multimodal, multisensory artistic experience.
