A life of luxury in downtown Milwaukee

For this week's installment of Urban Spelunking with OnMilwaukee.com's Bobby Tanzilo, we're back in downtown Milwaukee inside the St. James Court Luxury Apartments.

And how luxurious they are!

Built in 1903, the apartments feature sprawling floor plans, ornamental plaster and woodwork, and majestic stained glass.  They were designed Alfred Clas  and developed by Emil Ott.

At the time, they were home to some of Milwaukee’s most wealthy.  A few units even boast separate servant's entrances and living quarters.

The building near 8th and Wisconsin Ave. has since been restored -- keeping intact those original finishes -- and residents still live there today.

Click the podcast player above to hear Bobby explain a secret feature inside the units, concealed in the floors of the dining room.  And be sure to follow this link to read his story in its entirety.
