Today is the first day of Summerfest. There are so many good artists and bands to catch, but so little time. So here at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee we will post some daily picks and recommendations. The picks include jocks' favorites, artists we play and more. Tonight's picks include soul legends, New Orleans funk, catchy indie pop and local flavor.
Starting at 4:15 over at the U.S. Cellular Stage, you can catch Milwaukee's Twin Brother followed by The Soil and Sun at 5:30pm. For more local music, you can catch The Midnight Rerurns at KNE Music Stage at 9:00pm.
We selected three can't miss headliners. However, you can only pick one of them to catch, since they all play at the same time. On the Miller Lite Oasis Stage at 10pm Indie pop darlings Bastille will perform. Then New Orleans funk and soul of Trombone Shorty & Orlean Avenue invades Briggs & Stratton Bib Backyard stage at 10pm. Finally, the legendary Mavis Staples will close out on the Johnson Controls World Sound Stage at 10pm. Her last album was produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy. So, there could be a suprise appearance from the Wilco frontman (at least we hope).
