Hundreds of college interns spend day volunteering

More than 700 college interns from at least 30 Milwaukee companies and organizations banded together last week for the United Way Intern Day of Action.

The annual community service event engaged the interns at 35 of United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County's program sites.

Volunteers visited a summer camp and a school, leading the kids art projects and playing games.

On the other side of the age spectrum, volunteers from Rockwell Automation visited the United Community Center to play bingo with elderly at the agency's senior center.

This year was the largest Intern Action Day ever, and the largest in the country, according to local United Way news release.
