This week on Urban Spelunking, Bobby Tanzilo takes us to Downtown Milwaukee where a trio of historic buildings will soon see major redevelopment.
The site at 4th and McKinley was home to National Ace Hardware since 1987. Prior to that, a fire station occupied one of the buildings, and a company that manufactured sidecars for Harley Davidson was housed in another building in the complex.
Looking forward, a multi-million dollar development is planned for the site.
After Ace vacates the facility this fall, it will be developed into a commercial and office center, keeping much of the original exterior details intact.
Inside, developers are planning an extensive overhaul. The site will be modernized, featuring a bar and restaurant, fitness facilities and a year-round a beer garden.
