Hundreds of student athletes will have a new field to call home this school year.
Milwaukee Public Schools last week officially dedicated two new athletic stadiums, complete with artificial turf and new scoreboards. Nine MPS football programs will use the fields as their "home" stadiums, including three new programs created this year.
On the North Side, Custer Stadium will serve Rufus King International High School, James Madison Academic Campus, Morse Marshall School for the Gifted and Talented, North Division High School, Barack Obama School of Career and Technical Education and Washington High School of Information Technology.
South Stadium will serve Bay View High School, Lynde and Harry Bradley Technology and Trade High School and South Division High School.
Funding for the project came from "Qualified School Construction Bonds" issued by MPS through the city of Milwaukee, according to a news release issued by MPS.
