Stream 88Nine jock's favorite music for November

We know you love to discover new music. So do we! Our DJs are constantly listening to new stuff. Some of it doesn't make it on the air, but we still want to share it with you.

If you're looking for some fresh tunes, check out our DJs' playlists below and let us know what you think! (And be sure to come back, because we'll be updating this monthly.)

Rhythm, it's the most important part of why I love music.  The patterns of the drum have always spoken to me, and in the summer I crave more energy from those rhythms.  This playlist I've compiled is full of sunshiney ( is that a word? ) rhythms and beats. Some of my favorite new producers are on this list, including Disclosure and RAC.  I'm also a sucker for the soulful sounds of anything from Daptone Records, and the new album by Saun and Starr has got me in a great mood.

My taste...? I know it's boring to say that I like all styles but if you are open to the idea that anything is possible then you may possibly like any or all of these songs. I do go through phases, here are the seeds of a few I'm currently cycling through...

My wheelhouse is what was once called College Rock and Punk Rock but today is more like Indie from the late 70's until the early 90's. Everything from Sex Pistols, The Damned, Joy Division, R.E.M., U2, The Smiths, The Replacements, Husker Du, Minutemen, Naked Raygun to Pavement, Buffalo Tom, The Connells, Yo La Tengo, Beastie Boys and Luna. Also current indie rock like The Hold Steady, Spoon, Wilco and Drive By Truckers. I'm also firmly rooted in the classics: The Rolling Stones, Beatles, Kinks, Who, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick and a heaping dollop of Blues: Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Junior Wells and Buddy Guy.

My musical preference changes sporadically, but I tend to lean toward songs that give me feelings; and if a song takes me back to a special memory, gives me energy, or even makes me sad, I'll invite that song into my heart.

It's always been tough for me to pin down my music taste. At the end of the day, though, regardless of genre, I've always been a lover of stories. I connect with music that tells a great story, whether through the rhythm, different instruments, or the overall lyrical message. And isn't that such a great part of any art form? Art gives us the chance to step into someone else's shoes and see the world how they see it. Through music we can experience struggle, share in joy and live vicariously through an artist. I love music that perfects that art of storytelling. Check out what I've been connecting with lately:
