Septemeber 18, 1970, the world lost one of the greatest guitarists to walk the earth.
He was 27, part of that eerie club of musicians who left us at that tender age (Joplin, Morrisson and Cobain among others).
What Jimi left us was an immense legacy, a rock-solid musical catalog of both studio and live albums and a seemingly bottomless vault of recorded material and countless guitarists who were inspired by his tremendous gifts.
He's been gone so long that his life has taken on an almost mythical status. What's funny about his song "Little Wing" is that Jimi's version is just 2:29 but EVERYBODY who covers it doubles and triples its length. Jimi's version was a perfect little gem. This live version is a bit longer.
Concrete Blonde's version nearly doubles the length but is a really pure version. Earle Mankey was an underrated guitarist.
