It's John Lennon's 75th Birthday.

He was one of the all-time greats. He was the walrus. He died way too young and violently. But what he left was an enormous legacy, in his music, in his wife, in his children and the way he lived his life. He wasn't perfect but who is? John Winston Lennon was born on this date in 1940.

While I admire so many of John's songs, today I mark his 75th birthday with one of his more experimental songs, "Tomorrow Never Knows", the last song on 1966's 'Revolver' but the first recorded. That recording was made on famed Abbey Road engineer Geoff Emerich's first day on the job (he was just 19) and it was Emerich's suggestion that they use a Leslie speaker to get the trademark vocal effect. Not bad for a first day, eh?

Happy Birthday John Lennon!

And we get a great cover from The Chameleons, who recorded their version in 1986.
