Neighborhood building community with big yellow chairs

A new landscaping trend has swept the Thurston Woods neighborhood on Milwaukee's far north side, dotting neighbors' front lawns with bright yellow chairs.

Residents received the chairs unassembled and unpainted, then joined each other over the summer for an afternoon of assembly and painting.  The project was led by the Agape Community Center, with the chairs donated by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.  The City of Milwaukee Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation was also a supporter of the project.

We talked with one couple that has lived in the neighborhood for more than 40 years -- they said this was the first time they'd met some of their neighbors, and it was all thanks to the community building efforts of the Agape Community Center.

Click the podcast player above the photos to hear from the couple and an organizer of the project.

WEB EXTRA:  Check out this video, produced by Agape, to hear from more residents in the neighborhood.
