Fundraiser to Benefit the Waubeka Historic District Association: Joseph Huber Band, Richard Walsh, TMT

Fundraiser to Benefit the Waubeka Historic District Association: Joseph Huber Band, Richard Walsh, TMT

This event is a Rain or Shine outdoor music concert benefiting a local community non-profit organization.

Waubeka, where the event takes place, is the home of Flag Day. Waubeka Historic District Association is raising funds to afford the cost of nominating Waubeka as a Wisconsin State Historic District. Thus far community members have paid for the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Officer to visit the community and assess if Waubeka was a good candidate for being a State Historic District, and it was concluded it would be a good candidate. Due to many of these 18th century built structures being in the what is now considered the flood plain, there are numerous limits on improving these historic structures. Without the Historic District Status many building as some have already have fallen in to disrepair.

By creating the Historic District status in this community, it provides financial opportunity to improve the buildings, but most importantly the cap on improving the structures is lifted. IE the cap is one cannot improve or modify the structure beyond 50% the value of the structure alone. This cap causes literal crumbling in a unique Milwaukee Riverside community. Waubeka not only is the home of Flag Day a national holiday but it is unique where you cannot find one franchise business located there giving it a rural charm within a 35 minute drive from Milwaukee unlike anywhere within 35 minutes of Milwaukee.

This new venue is hosting its first event to benefit the local community. We named it Waubeka Public House as an event space to host community events — from poetry ro music and speakers to lecturers from the surrounding and even foreign areas. We strive to create a Waubeka Revival by hosting this concert featuring the Joseph Huber Band and TMT (Treccy) of Milwaukee, along with North Kettle Moraine musician Richard Walsh.

We are including as vendors the Riveredge Nature Center Community Rivers Program to be on site and teach adults and children alike the value and history of the Milwaukee river particularly the history of the Waubeka area and how the River played a part in the settling there. Face paints, local soap makers, a DIY Flower Bar, Food Truck sourcing local produce and products for the menu, Mocktails besides beer and wine are some of the added features of this event. The event sits with 200 feet of the Milwaukee River land for a special atmosphere. Children 11 and under can attend for free.

Because our love for the Milwaukee River is strong we are serving drinks from water to alcohol with zero Plastic supplies. It is important to us we stay environmentally conscious while celebrating and fundraising for the riverside community Waubeka. Without the Milwaukee River, Waubeka would not be Waubeka. Essentially this venture is to encourge a Waubeka Revival and see the riverside community withstand another 100 years without losing the historic structures which make Waubeka as a community unique. The Waubeka Public House is so new it has not even created a web page . This event provides the first launch and exposure to the venue so the event itself is actually a big deal to the proprietors of Waubeka Public House.

Tickets are available through the web service Eventbrite or on the day of the show at the door. Children 11 and under enter for free. The fee is $20 plus the service charges for the host Eventbrite service fees. The tickets provide entry to enjoy 3 local Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin bands.
