Alvvays sets Pabst Theater return for April 22

Courtesy of the artist

It's hard to believe it's been nearly a decade since Alvvays surprised the indie-pop space with their self-titled debut album that included certified hit "Marry Me, Archie." It's even harder to believe it's been almost five years since they last played in Milwaukee at the Pabst Theater.

Fortunately, the band is set to make its return to the Cream City — and the Pabst — on April 22.

When you look at Alvvays' three-album history, it's hard to find any flaws. Each LP has produced multiple hits that 88Nine listeners should be familiar with after years of air play. Off their self-titled debut, there's the aforementioned "Marry Me," but also true bangers like "Adult Diversion" and "Atop a Cake." The group really embraced the dream-pop genre on Antisocialites, with "In Undertow," "Dreams Tonite" and "Plimsoll Punks" making an incredible 1-2-3 punch to start the A-side of the album.

Then, in 2022, Blue Rev unlocked a more refined sound while keeping lead singer Molly Rankin's distinctive vocals intact, with "Tile by Tile" and "After the Earthquake" really finding the mark. I expect to hear as many of those hits as they can fit into their set.

Tickets will go on sale at the Pabst/Riverside box offices and online at 10 a.m. this Friday, Dec. 8, though artist and venue presales begin Dec. 6. For more info, visit the show's webpage.
