If you've watched even five minutes of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, you've surely noted the brooding, bearded character that is Roy Kent. A legend in the Lasso universe and a cult hero for television audiences, Kent's emotional journey is one of the main storylines throughout the show's three seasons.
Much of that storyline has been written by the man who plays him, Brett Goldstein. The British actor has won two Emmy awards for playing the part (with another one pending). And in March, Goldstein will bring his witty, heartfelt commentary on the road for a stand-up tour that includes a stop at the Riverside Theater.
Despite credits dating to 2005, the 43-year-old's career really took off with Lasso in 2020. Since then, he's added two co-creator/writer credits to his résumé: AMC's Soulmates and Apple TV's Shrinking (my personal favorite show of 2023). It seems Goldstein has found the intersection of lighthearted comedy and gripping, relatable drama in his writing and producing, and I'm intrigued to see how that translates to a comedy routine.
"The Second Best Night of Your Life" tour will come to Milwaukee on Saturday, March 23 (unfortunately, too late for Goldstein to revive his one-man rendition of The Muppet Christmas Carol). Tickets go on sale at the Pabst/Riverside box offices and online at 10 a.m. this Friday, Dec. 15, with a Pabst eMember presale at noon Dec. 14 (code: SHOPPING).
Update: The Pabst Theater Group just announced that "due to overwhelming demand," Goldstein added a second show on the same date. Tickets for both the 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. show are available now.
