MKE Concert Pick: Great music, great cause at Cactus Club with Bully

Cactus Club

Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks.

Alicia Bognanno bringing her Bully project back to Milwaukee less than a year after blowing the doors off X-Ray Arcade is enough to earn top billing from us this week. But Cactus Club made it almost impossible for us to pick anything else by making the Wednesday night show a tentpole event of the venue’s accessibility initiative.

You can get a ton of info about the club’s massive undertaking in 88Nine music director Erin Wolf’s recent interview with owner Kelsey Kaufmann, but here’s the short version: Cactus Club decided its roughly century-and-a-half-old building needed to serve all music fans more effectively and launched an effort to become ADA-compliant. That’ll start with a ramp to the front door and continue inside with accessible bathrooms, improved sight lines, an accessible stage and a lowered section of the bar to make ordering easier.

None of that can happen, however, without financial support. You could provide some through avenues like renting the club’s green room, buying merch or joining its Patreon (all of which you can find here). Alternatively — or in addition — you can enjoy what’s sure to be a memorable show from an artist whose most recent album rocked and most recent visit to Milwaukee more than confirmed her live-performance chops.

Bully will play Cactus Club with opener Scarlet Demore this Wednesday, with doors at 7 p.m. and the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Get tickets online or at the door, and learn more about Cactus Club’s accessibility initiative on its website.
