414 Music Live with Devil Met Contention
On 88Nine, we play a variety of genres. Indie, electronic, hip-hop, folk. And as much as genres help us to explain the kinds of music we play, often times the artists defy genre. Bend it. Make it their own. Take pieces of multiple and create something greater. Devil Met Contention is a great example of a band doing exactly that.
We call them a “blues, folk, country” ensemble, but since their first release in 2012, they’ve evolved into much more. Fuel the Lights is the band’s first full-length release and the group’s sound delves into a darker side – a darker that finally seems to match the band’s ominous name. While frontman Ehson Rad’s vocals still conjure a Tom Waits/Nick Cave connection, the band takes on more complex material (i.e. the Ferguson unrest in track “Ferguson”) in this June 2016 release.
In summary, we’re stoked to hear this new material live.

Ken Sumka was out in Denver this week, so our trusty Music Director Justin Barney once again ran the show.
