Listen to the dark, crystalline music of Rose of the West on 414 Live

Thursday on 414 Live, we were excited to welcome Rose of the West and its temperate-but-temperamental style of pop to the Radio Milwaukee stage.

Listen to the session and interview below.

Driving its hazy dream-currents of music are frosty synths, radiant warmth from guitar and piano, nimble bass lines and a tempestuous, gutsy kick from clear-cut percussion. Rose of the West leader, Gina Barrington, brings it all together with her crystalline, but sultry vocals, twisting and turning lyrics over like talismans. And no matter how dark, Barrington’s most desolate words always seem to hold the possibility of turning those single sparks into bright flames.

The full band is Thomas Gilbert on guitar and synthesizer, Erin Wolf on keyboard, vocals, harmonium, Cedric LeMoyne on bass and Dave Power on drums.

Right off the release of the band’s newest single “Roads,” Rose of the West gave us a taste of its debut album coming out on April 5, 2019 on Communicating Vessels.

414 Live is presented by Miller Brewing Company and the Milwaukee Bucks with support from Weeds in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.
