Ezra Koenig picks “Father Of Night” by Bob Dylan
My guest today is Ezra Koenig, lead singer of Vampire Weekend. Vampire Weekend started as a band of kids going to Columbia University and they have grown into one of the biggest bands in the world.
What is one song you can’t stop listening to?
Well I feel bad cause I’m always just listening to old music all the time. I mean, I stay up on new music. You know, I love “Old Town Road” like everyone else, but truthfully the last song I couldn’t stop listening to is…
I got a friend. An old friend from growing up and we’re both just super into Bob Dylan. When Vampire Weekend started covering “Jokerman” she was texting me, “That’s so crazy, I’ve been listening to Jokerman all the time.”
So she sent me a song I didn’t know so well called, “Father of Night.” It’s the last song on his album, “New Morning.” That’s the amazing thing about Bob Dylan, there is so much music. Sometimes I feel like I’m ahead, like I know so much, like I really know his music. And then I don’t even know this classic song. I don’t know anything. So I find it always rewarding.
