Sylvan Esso have been very busy the last few weeks. Their newest LP, No Rules Sandy, dropped Aug. 12, and we can’t stop listening to it! They just played the Newport Folk Festival and are currently on the road supporting ODESZA’s “The Last Goodbye” tour, performing in huge arenas (like Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion on Sept. 9 and 10)
I was super excited to sit down with Amelia and Nick between shows for a quick chat about how the sounds and vibe of the new record reflect the beauty and chaos of the last few years, as well as how a chaise lounge was an essential part of the recording process.
They also shared the joys and challenges of playing three different sets in three days at Newport and answered my favorite question: What did your childhood smell like?
