For this week's premiere, we've got an upbeat, reggae-inspired number from Milwaukee singer-songwriter Matthew Davies. Stream and read about the song below.
Artist's statement
"Get Ready To Run was recorded at my studio in Milwaukee’s Clarke Square neighborhood. I had recently finished recording/mixing a record for reggae artist, David Robinson. David asked me to play drums and bass for those recordings. I was totally out of my comfort zone, but he had confidence in me and schooled me on the basics of the groove. I doubt I’ll ever make a living in a reggae rhythm section, but I think some of that feeling found it’s way into the recording of "Get Ready To Run."
The song is about trying to keep up with the pace of modern life and the feeling that we all sometimes have of not being up to the task. Fight or flight kinda thing. In the end, I wanted the music to be uplifting even if the lyrics are somewhat introspective and uncertain. Though I did play all the parts and do the all the recording/engineering for this new EP, I’ve gotta give a big shout out to Shane Hochstetler at Howl Street Recordings. Without his expertise and inspired sonic choices this wouldn’t be half as cool as it turned out.
The "Get Ready To Run" EP comes out Friday, July 30.
