For today's premiere, we've got a blissful dollop of cosmic folk from Sleepy Gaucho's upcoming album "Morning Light," due later this year. Stream "Mr. Wick" below.
First impressions
Sleepy Gaucho is the alias of Andy Goitia, a Milwaukee singer/songwriter whose psychedelic country harkens back to Laurel Canyon greats like Gram Parsons and The Flying Burrito Brothers. Father John Misty fans, too, should see the allure in "Mr. Wick," a leisurely and luxuriously twangy meditation on ephemerality.
"Why keep living in the past, when you no nothing lasts?" Goitia sings. "Nothing's here to stay, make no mistake." If that sounds heavy, though, the track is anything but -- it zips by in a pleasant, three-minute haze of pedal steel guitars and barroom piano. If it's inevitable that everything changes, why get bent out of shape about it?
