"We shouldn't have to say 'love yourself.' It should be something we are born knowing and we're raised in a society that we're nurtured to do. But I take that really personally, because I had to go through that."

For Minneapolis artist Lizzo, confidence came from taking harsh words of a boy on the school bus and turning them into empowerment.
"All the media, sensory stimulus that we get, teach us what to love and what to like," she says."Hopefully more people like me will be so important that the media can't shut us out. That's all I can hope for."
