Every song has a viewpoint. For a pair of artists coming soon to the Back Room @ Colectivo, those sight lines tend to have a more character-driven origin.
Charlie Martin | 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18
Martin might be better known to audiences as 50% of Hovvdy. But the Austin-based musician beat his band to the punch in 2021 by releasing his own album, “Imaginary People,” in April ahead of Hovvdy’s well-received “True Love” in October. Martin’s solo offering sees him shifting perspectives to various characters, with the goal of listeners feeling “comforted or lifted up.”
Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. this Friday at the Pabst/Riverside box offices and online.
William Fitzsimmons | 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9
Fitzsimmons mined the experiences of two characters for his most recent album, “Ready the Astronaut,” and a reimagined version titled “No Promises: The Astronaut’s Return.” The first was himself as he navigated his second divorce. The other was Icarus, the failed flier of Greek mythology and — from Fitzsimmons’ perspective — a fitting analog for his own situation.
See how he interweaves the two at his upcoming show, tickets for which are available now at the Pabst/Riverside box offices and online.
