If you've noticed, I've been pretty quiet about what's been going on with In The Mix. But I promise you there's a good reason. I needed some time after cooking up an idea that still needed to be marinated, discussed and executed. After six months in the oven, it's finally ready.
And by that I mean I'm ready to let the world know that not only will the show continue its commitment to showcasing local and global talent, but we're also getting even more involvement from some of the most trusted musical minds in the business to find that talent. Our Resident DJs will help In The Mix reach a wider audience, showcase their unique sound on a regular basis, and give our 88Nine and HYFIN listeners an opportunity to build a musical relationship with them.
Without further ado, here are some of the people you'll hear Saturdays from 9 p.m. to midnight:
DJ Lady D
DJ Lady D is house music royalty. A resident DJ for our good friends at Vocalo Radio once a month, Lady D has been a mainstay in the Chicago dance music scene for well over 30 years. She's truly a conduit of the Chicago house music sound and such a pleasure to be around.
DRiPSweat
DRiPSweat is a producer, singer, dancer, poet and, more recently, a sound-healing practitioner and organic farmer. Her ultimate motivation is to provide good-for-your-soul mixes. DRiPSweat infuses house, R&B, mashup and more.
DJ Devast8
Devast8 has been with me almost every step of the way these 30+ years in the business. A Milwaukee native and now-Arizona resident rocks several spots in the Phoenix area. Devast8 brings Latin, old school, tech house and more.
DJ Purple
His style can be best described as "Organic Dance Music" — a classy combination of commercial hits and hot underground records compiled in such a way as to maintain a total club experience. His music presentation is designed to get you moving every body part, from your head down to your feet. You can catch Purple spinning with our good friends at Vocalo and occasionally with Charlie Jayx on Transcentral for WMSE.
Fortune
Fortune is a dedicated force in the Midwest music industry, with over 20 years DJ'ing, coordinating electronic music events, promoting, talent-buying, mentoring and most recently launching an agency under her company Apart. Fortune is widely recognized and respected as a key player throughout the region. Originally from London, by way of Milwaukee, she now calls the home of house music her new landing spot.
Carbonella
A rising star in the House music scene here in the Midwest, Carbonella was born in Italy and is in love with house music — and it shows in her skills. She has excelled from her first ever mix, to regularly supporting major artists. The most notable to date are Green Velvet, Walker and Royce, SIDEPIECE, Eli Brown and more.
Alex Peace & Brian Boncher
This next set of amazing DJs have been so critical to the House music scene in Chicago. Friends for several years and musically like-minded, Alex Peace and Brian Boncher partnered up to create a label that is dedicated to Chicago house music in all its forms. Check out their mixes, weekly Tru Casts, production, remixes and more!
FreakishNerd
Mahdi Atif is a freakishly talented photographer, and now you can add fresh young DJ from the city of Milwaukee. I first heard spin some really eclectic vibes at Company Brewing and just knew I had to have him on the show.
Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver is a special talent out of NYC. I actually met Collin and his father almost four years ago when they took a trip to MKE with Tommie Sunshine. Collin is no stranger to our airwaves and enjoyed his first release on Sunshine's Brooklyn Fire Records at 15 yrs old. He now DJ's all over the world and is releasing more great music at the ripe old age of 20.
Ronco
Ronco is a special DJ and good friend. Quick story: Ronco first came to us as a really new DJ just getting his feet wet in the game. I can remember turning down the mix he submitted, but I gave him some critical feedback on the set. Instead of being upset and cursing me, he took my advice and gave me a mix I will never forget. Now, Ronco produces great music and rocks crowds all over the Midwest.
Tista
I'll never forget DJing with Tista early in the Lucid Lounge days on Milwaukee Street. He's such a kind soul with a great vibe, always asking how I'm doing (love it when other DJs check on each other). When Tista isn't talking crazy about overpriced sandwiches, he rocks house music at several spots in the city.
