Countdown - Top 10 Studio Milwaukee Sessions

Jack Garratt With Crowd

It's the end of the year which means TOP TEN LISTS!!

We lost a lot of musical greats in 2016, but we also gained a lot of great new music from both local and national bands. We've been lucky to host special intimate, sometimes stripped down performances by some of our favorite artists with an awesome audience of our listeners and members.

10. Lizzo

The Minneapolis sensation Lizzo joined us in February and got the crowd on their feet with her energy and back up dancers. If you weren't here in person, listen to the archive and view the photo gallery here:

9. The Record Company

Milwaukee ex-pat Chris Vos seems to be doing well after a move to Los Angeles. His band The Record Company was just nominated for a Grammy, but the band stopped by Radio Milwaukee for a session all the way back in March. Stream their soulful blues rock session here:

8. M Ward

Portland's M Ward joined us to share a few songs from his album "More Rain" -- aptly touring in damp March. Find the session and interview here:

7. The Living Statues

This popular Milwaukee group didn't have to travel far to visit Studio Milwaukee. For catchy hooks and stylish jams, look no further:

6. Miles Nielsen and the Rusted Hearts

hail from Rockford, IL and cite both power-pop and classic soul as influences. (And yes, there is a relation between the singer and another Nielsen hailing from Rockford.)

5. Fast Romantics

Canadian six-piece Fast Romantics draw a lot of comparisons, but it may because their brand of pop-rock is so catchy and polished, it sounds instantly familiar. The almost-a-hit songs haven't gone unnoticed. Since their visit to Studio Milwaukee this past April, the band has received the highly regarded SOCAN Songwriting Prize. Listen to the winning track and more, here:

4. Jack Garratt

At the start of the year, Jack Garratt kicked off Studio Milwaukee with a very, very special performance.  He recently won the BBC Sound of 2016 poll and was critics choice pick for the Brit Awards (similar to our Grammys.) Garratt's visit was an exclusive performance, with no other live shows in the area. Watch a few interviews Garratt had with Rhythm Lab Radio:

3. Frightened Rabbit

The Scottish band played an emotional Studio Milwaukee performance before their Pabst Theater date. Stream the poignant session and interview here:

2. Diane Coffee

Shaun Fleming has been both a Disney voice actor and drummer for the band Foxygen. Under the moniker Diane Coffee, Fleming transforms into a glam rock powerhouse. He brought the Studio Milwaukee crowd to their feet for one of two standing ovations. Listen to the energetic performance and interview here:

1. Charles Bradley

You’ve heard “The Screaming Eagle of Soul” over the years on our airwaves, and while Charles Bradley‘s soul music is powerful on record, Bradley’s live performance is where the emotional powerhouse really shines. Bradley wowed the audience with his soulful power and incredibly poignant interview. Relive our #1 Studio Milwaukee session here:
