Grace Weber’s Music Lab, our free music and arts education program for Milwaukee-area high school students, is one of four grantees to receive funding from the Presidential Scholars Foundation and Alumni Association Seed Grant Program.

Because of current circumstances surrounding COVID-19, Grace Weber’s Music Lab transitioned to virtual programming for its March and April labs. In April, the Music Lab’s virtual open mic on Instagram Live featured seven performers and was viewed by more than one hundred students.

“The Presidential Scholars Foundation and Alumni Association received an excellent group of diverse applications for the 2019-2020 round of Seed Grant Funding. The application from Grace Weber’s Music Lab stood out because of its focus on Milwaukee and the program’s ability to provide a safe and welcoming space where high school students can go to become a part of a diverse musical community,” shared Jamie Wagner, executive director of the Presidential Scholars Foundation.

“We also were excited about the innovative pivot the organization is taking in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to figuring out ways to continue to provide their monthly music labs virtually, they are also working to provide overall support and resources to their community.”

The Music Lab operates in line with the academic calendar year and will host its final virtual lab of the semester on Friday, May 29, with guest Kevin Sucher, executive director of Radio Milwaukee and music producer, manager and engineer. Students can sign-up for the lab at gwmusiclab.com

Grace Weber’s Music Lab is also generously supported by Educators Credit Union, Maihaugen Foundation and MPS Partnership for the Arts & Humanities.
