Devendra Banhart picks "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" by Caroline Polachek

My guest today is Devendra Banhart. He just released this album called "Ma" where he realized that he might not have a child. So he wanted to embark all the wisdom that he has gained throughout the years. He puts it into this album "Ma," and if you haven't listened to it, it's fantastic. We have been playing the song " Kantori Ongaku." My guest today is Devendra Banhart.

Devendra, what is one song, recently, that you couldn't stop listening to?

Does it have to be one song?

Well, I will only be able to play one song.

Okay, this is going to be tough, but exciting. I'm going to have to go with Caroline Polachek from Chairlift's, "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings."

That song is so good.

It's a pop masterpiece. And to me, there's such a nod to another pop genius, Shania Twain. It's very Shania to me, and I love Shania. It's just a f*****g subversive masterpiece.

What is subversive about it?

That she is so cool, and Caroline knows so much about music. She's kind of infiltrating a very mainstream sound. This could be a pop global hit, but what's subversive is that it's coming from somebody that's so well educated and knows so much about music. She's got everything to be this pop idol, I think. Once she becomes this huge mainstream name, she'll continue to make some really interesting, strange music that'll really blow minds.

I love it. And I love the sentiment "so hot you're hurting my feelings." It's just so full of joy.
