Straight to the heart of the Sahara for some music from the desert nomads that make it -- the Tuareg.
Though we in the West call them Tuareg, the people of Tinariwen -- the name they use for the deserts that make up the Sahara -- call themselves the Kel Tamsheq, or speakers of Tamsheq. They make music that is undeniably a root of what we know as the Blues.
This is a mix of new and older work from past masters and skilled aspirants; deep, bluesey and trance-inducing stuff here. Be careful...
