In what I'd originally called a 'Queens of Reggae' mix, with intentions of simply playing reggae from female artists, I sorta felt that while I'd love a flow-type mix of vintage and new artists together it might be more coherent to build a mix of reggae's heritage artists. So I went all-in on the old-school and played some of the sisters that are the bedrock pon which female reggae artists continue to refine and build.

So starting with beginnings, went with the first real reggae hit from a lady, Millie Small's "My Boy Lollipop" which for some reason, I never really think of as reggae. But the ska skank is clearly there even if the vocals veer toward rhythm and blues. But hey that's what reggae grew from, and you can hear that early rhythm and blues in many of the songs in the first part of the mix.
From there, lots to discover and I tried to include the most definitive artists of early reggae in the 60's all the way to some early 80's examples. Not just the artists, but also either their most recognizable, most definitive song(s). The mix is more selector style than mixology, and is a good compilation of grooves in a chronological(ish) order. Please be my guest...
