So, I visited Ecuador again and came back with some new friends...these Latin artists on my new Ecuador playlist for Sound Travels.
You may or may not have noticed that I was away from the midday show for a couple of weeks awhile back. A vacation was in order and instead of sticking around the area to take care of stuff around here, I jumped at an opportunity to fly to Ecuador. Although the trip was really, truly about getting some vacay time in, I did manage to discover a bunch of Ecuadorean music and last Sunday put it on the air in place of the Sunday Sound Travels mixtape.
I'm no expert—after eight days of Ecuador, I'm sure I've only begun to scratch the surface. While there, I got a chance to explore Quito, the country's capitol, then out into the rustic countryside outside of Quito, then on to the coast for an adventure in the surf town of Montañita. That's a lot for eight days. I felt like I could've easily spent a year exploring the many facets of a country that has an ancient history and a heart that pulses with modernity.
Musically speaking, Ecuador is fluid; lots of reggaeton from all over Latin America plus an equal appreciation of salsa, cumbia and more recognizable hits from the US and beyond. Discover it here through the playlist.
