Stages, clubs and monasteries: Beth Orton shares her unique path through music

I’ve got underground dance clubs to thank for my introduction to the wonderful music of Beth Orton. Lending her unique voice to tracks from the Chemical Brothers and William Orbit, and remixes by Ben Watt, the DJs at Mad Planet, Eso and Metropolis were my gateway into her catalog.

Earlier this month, I got my chance to welcome her to our space at Radio Milwaukee for a live session ahead of her show at the Pabst Theater. In front of a very packed and very appreciative audience of our members, she played three songs from her latest record, Weather Alive, and I got to ask her questions I’ve been thinking about for three decades.

Listen to the full Studio Milwaukee Session below to hear about her early days at clubs and experimental theater in the U.K., how she ended up on those dance tracks and, of course, what her childhood smelled like.
