From mariachi to dubstep, Milwaukee has a wide offering of holiday concert experiences this season. Piet and I look through local favorites and international trailblazers to give you our picks for the best Christmas concert offerings in Milwaukee this year.
Listen to our holiday concert picks — from a Hamilton star to a mariachi performance on this week’s episode of Tap’d in:
We start with Lindsey Stirling. Her cover of Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” made her popular on YouTube and now she’s reimagining classics like “Carol of the Bells” on Dec. 5 at the Riverside Theater.
Milwaukee has been all a-buzz with Hamilton fever this fall and Leslie Odom, Jr., the original Aaron Burr from “Hamilton,” performs with the Milwaukee Symphony for “A Holiday Special,” set to feature classics like “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “My Favorite Things.” on Dec. 11 at the Riverside Theater.
Mariachi Reyna De Los Angeles have performed for Oprah Winfrey and the Obamas, Mariachi Reyna will be playing in South Milwaukee as part of its holiday tour “Navidad Mexicana” on Dec. 13 at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center.
Of course we always cover local music on this podcast, and we are excited that Milwaukee singer-songwriter Joe Richter will give us some holiday tunes on Dec. 21 at the Back Room @ Colectivo Coffee.
If Christmas music is not your thing, perhaps going out on New Year’s Eve is more your style. This year Milwaukee will once again have two big EDM shows to choose from. Radiance NYE 2019 at the Wisconsin Center and The Rave will host Seven Lions at Stellar Spark to ring in 2020. If that’s all a bit too much for you, we suggest you ring in the New Year with Milwaukee legends The Gufs and The Willy Porter Band at the Pabst Theater.
